Under the Covers

This is the first of what will be a weekly tradition (every Sunday?)here at poptopia!, a feature on cover songs. Pictured above is the lovely St.Vincent who covers Jackson Browne penned/Nico recorded These Days in wonderful fashion. Next up is Owen Pallet or Final Fantasy doing Bloc Party‘s This Modern Love. Pallett picks the perfect song to cover as he does it proper justice musically but when it comes to his singing I’ll stick with the Party. And last but not least comes Lismore straight from New Jersey. They cover the newly reformed Smashing Pumpkins and their song 1979. Personally the song is a favorite of mine, and an odd choice for Lismore. One that doesn’t really pay off. Well they can’t all be winners. And I still enjoy the fuck out of Lismore.

St. Vincent – These Days (Jackson Browne cover)
Final Fantasy – This Modern Love (Bloc Party cover)
Lismore – 1979 (Smashing Pumpkins cover)
